Project overview

Together with Overpriced, we built the new website for Mākslai vajag telpu — an independent Latvian culture foundation behind exhibitions, discussions and publishing projects. The site brings two things together: a clear record of the foundation's work, and a searchable home for the full archive of Rīgas Laiks magazine.

The design is deliberately quiet — lists, hairlines and generous photography — so the work and the writing stay in focus.

Scope of work

Here's what we focused on throughout the project:

• Webflow development
  Built the project list, project pages, about page and archive on a lightweight, custom design system.
• Archive migration
  Recovered and imported 8,165 articles, 341 issues and over 11,500 images from the old Rīgas Laiks site, keeping long-form texts, footnotes and tables intact.
• Archive search
  Developed a filterable archive where readers can search by title, author or topic and narrow results by year, section and language.
• Editorial tools
  Created a simple system for sizing and aligning images inside articles, so editors can lay out long reads without touching code.
• Content assembly
  Gathered the foundation's project material into a structured CMS that the team can keep adding to.

The result is a calm, editorial site that gives decades of Latvian cultural writing a permanent, searchable home.
